A strangely satisfying place to share my photography.

I have always struggled with the internet as a place to share my photography. Sitting with a photo should be an experience that goes beyond the image itself. YouTube has proved to be a surprisingly enjoyable space to share my images, and thoughts on the craft.

Why 85mm is NOT my ideal portrait lens

When it comes to portrait photography, 85mm is the exception not the rule. It is not my ideal portrait, because it limits my ability to share the story. In this video we are heading to Kathmandu in Nepal and sharing some lovely moments with the local people in Nepal and exploring a little street photography. And when possible, we’re shooting wide instead of long.

What I learned from judging a photo competition
I was asked to judge a competition for a camera club, and that’s pretty much where it all went wrong. This video takes a look at why I'm really not well suited to competition judging, and why 'intention' is so important to creativity. Plus a side serve of ICM thrown into the mix.

I make beautiful photos so people can steal them
If your photography is in any way good, there’s going to be a danger that somebody will steal your work. In a sense, thats exactly the point of everything I do. To what extent are all of dependant on the artistic paths that others have forged for us?

Pushing 12MP RAW to Poster Print Size
How far can you push a 12MP image and still get a print worth hanging on the wall? Do you even need more than 12MP to enjoy your stills photography? We pair the magic of Upscayl with the Sony ZV-E1, plus some super compact Sigma prime lenses, to generate some amazing results.

Birds Are Hard
Finding your path to enjoying bird photography. Not a technical video, more a conversation on the art of walking around park being snubbed by all manner of birds :)

Layering of Colours with Intentional Camera Movement
ICM is a chance to let yourself be expressive and creative with very very little investment of time or gear. You don't need fancy lenses. You don't need to travel to the other side of the world. You probably don't even need to leave your own home in fact.

Finding a path in photography that you don’t hate
If you’re bored it’s because you are ready for something new to do with your talent. You need a challenge. So go find it.

How to Capture Auroras
This is a great primer for getting started on shooting and also happens to have some of my favourite moments from chasing auroras earlier this year.

Choosing a lens you will LOVE
Why would I shoot with a lens that only does one focal length, when there are so many zoom lens alternatives that can cover so much more range? What is the point of a prime lens at all? We look at telephoto zooms, wide angle zooms, and how far lens technology has moved forward for zooms and primes alike.

Monks & Momos
Walk with me through a photography session that took place in Nepal a few weeks ago. I’ve saved all my RAW files from that shoot and I’ll be showing you in detail how I applied my treatment to these images, and giving you a first hand look at what pics made the final cut and why.

Just A Walk In The Park
What started as a walk through the local botanical gardens ended with 5322 captures, plus a chance to reflect on the good and bad that comes with modern camera technology. A got a little carried away with my macro lens and reconnected with the joy of photography.

Melbourne in Monochrome

Downtown Melbourne is full of gorgeous photographic moments, and especially in the winter light. Walk with me through some of the inspiration that I have enjoyed right outside my doorstep.

Bring the Bokeh on your Lumix G9II
What is the secret to getting maximum bokeh out of your Lumix G9 Mark II, or any other MFT camera? In this video we’ll talk about the beauty of bokeh and just how much of a full-frame look you can squeeze out of smaller sensors.

Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN ART
I’ve had a chance to shoot with the new Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 DG DN ART over recent weeks, and in this video I’m sharing a tonne of images from the streets of Melbourne. Even if a 28-105mm zoom is not your thing, sit back and enjoy some photos from Melbourne anyway!

Sigma 14mm F1.4 Field Review from Arctic Norway
This is my new favourite lens for the Arctic. It’s not just for stars, and not just auroras. It’s also a creative lens choice when you want to do something a little bit different with landscape photography.

Lumix G9II Custom Setup
One of my favourite features on the LUMIX cameras is how they've implemented the custom dial. In this video I walk you through the settings I've loaded into my G9 Mark II, plus there's a free download in the video description so you can pop these exact same settings onto your G9II as well.

Beginners Guide to the LUMIX S5II
How to get started with the LUMIX S5II, and why you might want to get familiar with some of it’s more powerful features. There’s a lot to cover with this remarkable camera, but I’m mostly diving into stills photography here and sharing a tonne of my personal advice based on many years experience shooting with the original S5 and now the S5II.

Outback adventure with Sigma's 60-600mm Sport
I’ve hauled the Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS SPORT on a road trip through the wilds of Australian Outback. I want to share with you some amazing locations for photography, and show you what I loved about shooting with this lens.

Custom Settings for the LUMIX S9
I’ve been travelling with the LUMIX S9 for about a month now and testing out a series of custom settings for this model. These are fully tested in the field and you can download a copy of my settings to apply to your camera body.

Sigma 50mm F1.2 for Sony and L-Mount
Sigma have made a really beautiful 50mm lens that is surprisingly compact while delivering F1.2 wide open. This is a stunning 50mm lens for your E-Mount or L-Mount full frame camera. How much of a difference does F1.2 make to your photography, and what’s the downside to having such a fast lens in the bag?

Why 35mm is perfect for photography in Japan
I started this journey with way too much camera gear, and in the end it was my smallest and lightest prime lens that gave me most of the joy. Join me for a short visit to Japan and a chat about why 35mm is such a marvellous focal length for this wonderful country.

LUMIX S 100mm F2.8 Macro for L-Mount
This is a super compact lens for super small subjects, but delivers super-sized performance and in particular the Autofocus is on a whole other level. I want to show you why this is the best macro available on the L-Mount today, and walk you through a series of shoots that go beyond the bees and blossoms!
